I can’t believe that it has only been about six weeks since I decided to self-publish my works instead of continue the endless query grind to its bloody, painful end. I also can’t believe that I am getting into the final stages of preparation for release. My editor will be done in a few weeks. My cover artist and illustrator has 12 more chapter header images to complete. My co-cover designer/letterer is just waiting on me for final content for the cover.
It is insane how much work has to go into putting this book together properly. Could I have done a half-cocked eBook version two months ago? Sure. One thing I pride myself on, though, is that I do not half-do anything. I either don’t do it or I do it right. At least, I try to anyway. I have learned more about fonts, formatting, and printing than I ever wanted to know. Was it worth it? That remains to be seen.
When I decided to self-publish, even my wife didn’t realize that I was going all-in. I recently printed a few sample pages of the final format of the manuscript for print and showed them to my wife. Her response was phenomenal: “Wow, this looks like a real book.” Thanks, honey, because I’ve just been sitting here doing nothing all these weeks.
All of that being said, I have set a release date of May 30th, 2011 for the launch of Toonopolis: Gemini. It will be available in both Hardcover, Paperback, and eBook form through all major online retailers. Selling the book to brick-and-mortar stores will be another process that will begin soon.
Be sure to check out the Toonopolis Facebook fanpage for updates on illustrations from the wonderful Cami Woodruff.
